Disney's D23 Fan Convention 2024 - Trailers and News (UPDATED AUG 11, 3:40 PM)
Disney's annual D23 Convention is taking place August 9-11, and the studio has made some major announcements covering its film, TV and stage properties. Here's a quick rundown of what Disney has in store. We'll be updating as new announcement come over the weekend.

(NEW) Four exclusive episodes of The Simpsons, including a Christmas-themed double episode, will debut this year on Disney+. In addition, the recently ended Season 35 will make its premiere on Disney+ October 2. The streamer will also drop a Halloween short in October.
(NEW) Disneyland in California is getting its own Avatar-themed attraction. Inspired by Avatar: The Way of Water, the new attraction will take guests “on the adventure of a lifetime in search of majestic natural wonders that can only be found on Pandora and the beauty – and danger – that come along with the journey. This new and thrilling excursion will bring all the action, excitement, and wonder of Avatar, taking guests all the way to the wide-open seas of Pandora.”
(NEW) Percy Jackson and the Olympians has revealed new cast additions for Season 2. The series has found its Gray Sisters -- old women who share one eye and one tooth, who operate a “taxi firm” in New York City -- in the form of Sandra Bernhard as Anger, Kristen Schaal as Tempest, and Margaret Cho as Wasp.
(NEW) Marvel's upcoming 4-part animated series Marvel Zombies, spun-off from the fifth episode of What If...? will carry a TV-MA rating, for mature audiences only. Shang-Chi, Katy, Wenwu, Death Dealer and agent Jimmy Woo will be featured.
(NEW) The newly retitled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (formerly Spider-Man: Freshman Year) will feature the voices of Hudson Thames, who voiced Peter Parker in What If...?, and Colman Domingo as Norman Osborn.
(NEW) Season 2 of X-Men '97 will feature the characters of Apocalypse, Sabretooth, Lady Deathstrike, Havock, Mariko, Polaris and Danger, and the X-Men will be donning the costumes from the Grant Morrison comic books.
(NEW) The world of Black Panther will be expanding with another 4-episode animated series, Eyes of Wakanda, which will focus on how the hidden nation’s past helped shape its future. A major new character, Noni, will be introduced to the MCU.
(NEW) The third and final season of the animated anthology What If...? will feature Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight, Shang Chi, White Vision, Ironheart, Wong, Scarlet Witch, Monica Rambeau and Captain America -- and a mech-focused episode titled, "Go-Avengers: Heroes of the Gamma War.”
(NEW) Disney and Fortnite developer Epic Games are working together to bring Disney brands to the gaming universe. On August 16, Fantastic Four's Doctor Doom will appear in Fornite’s Battle Royale’s Chapter 5, Season 4: Absolute Doom. Fans will be able to pick up clues and hints as to the storylines for upcoming Marvel films featuring those characters, connecting the game to Marvel storytelling in a deeper way than ever before.
The title for the Freaky Friday sequel has been announced: Freakier Friday. Original stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan return with Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao all set to reprise their roles. Sophia Hammons, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, and Jordan E. Cooper join as newcomers, and Manny Jacinto will play Lohan's on-screen husband. The film will hit theaters in 2025.
Disney has revealed the score for Tron: Ares will be composed by Nine Inch Nails.
Season 2 of Percy Jackson and the Olympians has started production. The new season will follow the events of the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters.
Ben Mendelsohn is joining Season 2 of Andor, reprising his role as Rogue One villain Orson Krennic.
Hugh Jackman movie musical The Greatest Showman is being developed for Broadway. It was also revealed that Disney's Frozen stage musical has been filmed and will premiere on Disney+ in 2025. Animated musical Hercules is also getting the stage treatment and will premiere in London's West End in the Summer of 2025.
Speaking of Frozen, filmmaker Jennifer Lee revealed concept art for a third Frozen film and suggested the questions left at the end of Frozen 2 would take two films to answer ... although there was no official announcement of a fourth film.
Zoe Saldaña is joining the voice cast of Elio. The film follows a boy named Elio who finds himself inadvertently beamed up to an interplanetary organization where he is chosen to become Earth’s ambassador to other galaxies. Saldaña will voice Elio's aunt.
Saldaña also joined her Avatar director James Cameron and co-star Sam Worthington to announce the title for the third film of the series -- Avatar: Fire and Ash. The film opens in December 2025.
Zootopia star Ginnifer Goodwin revealed a new character is coming to Zootopia 2 -- Gary the Snake, who will be voiced by Oscar winner Ke Huy Quan.
Disney and Pixar announced a third Incredibles movie is coming, with director Brad Bird returning to helm the film.
Pixar announced a new original film titled Hopper, about a human and a beaver who exchange brains. Bobby Monihan will play the regal Beaver, King George, and Jon Hamm is also providing a voice in the film.
The Inside Out TV series was officially announced. It will be titled Dream Productions, and is set between the events of the two films, taking place in the studio where Riley’s dreams are made every night on time and on budget.
Disney revealed a first look at the CGI Stitch from the live-action adaptation of the animated film Lilo and Stitch. Maia Kealoha will star as Lilo Pelekai. The film will be released in the Summer of 2025, possibly on May 23 as the studio has booked that date for a currently unknown film.
Pixar revealed Toy Story 5 is coming, with Andrew Stanton directing. Not much is known except the hint that the story may be about the toys versus technology.
